Illinois Valley Community College’s Office of Continuing Education will offer a free “Sleep Technician Information Session” (CPD-3217-302) from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1 in Room C 325.
Sleep technology, also known as polysomnographic technology, is a specialized healthcare profession that involves technical evaluation of patients with sleep disorders in the clinical setting of a sleep disorder center or laboratory for sleep-related breathing disorders.
Sleep technicians utilize the latest technology to conduct sleep studies that ensure safe and accurate assessment and treatment of sleep disorder patients. The growth in the number of sleep laboratories for the millions of Americans that suffer from sleep disorders supports an increasing demand for trained professionals.
Participants will learn about becoming a sleep technician including information about the profession and steps to accreditation, IVCC’s accredited program, clinicals at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, required drug and health screening and background checks, pay range and career opportunities.
In addition, details about IVCC’s automatic payment plan will be available for interested students registered by Feb. 15. For information, contact Becky Piano at (815) 224-0490 or to register phone (815) 224-0447.
