2012 MLK Writing Contest Winner Reception

The IVCC Diversity Team is pleased to announce the winners of the 2012 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Contest. Entries were accepted from any IVCC student. Students were asked to submit an entry about any aspect of Civil Rights or the Civil Rights Movement, historical or current, in any format. The entries were judged by members of the IVCC Diversity Team. This year’s winners are:
1st Place – Sophia de Jesus-Sullivan for “What Influences Me”
2nd Place – Perpetua Kah for “Speech With Action”
3rd Place (tie) – Fielding Lockas for “Scapegoating” and Ginny McConnaughhy for “James Baldwin”
Winners receive a cash prize and a certificate. The first place winner will have a book on the civil rights movement inscribed with her name donated to Jacob’s library. The winners will read their entries at a reception on February 24th from Noon-1:00pm in room C-316. The reception is hosted by P.O.W.E.R.and is free and open to the public. Pizza and soda will be served.
