Canal Boat & Trolley Tour

Join us for the newest history tour that Starved Rock Lodge has to offer. Start off with a delicious Hot Lunch in the rustic dining room at Starved Rock Lodge. Next, board one of our trolleys for a ride to our State Park’s Visitor Center. Your trolley will also take you on a relaxing ride to the New Canal Boat located in LaSalle. Step back in time with period dressed interpreters on this 1-hour mule-pulled canal boat ride.
Art in the park

2:30 pm - 11:59 pm

Art in the Park is a collection of over 30 pieces of art (mostly woodcarvings and several bronze sculptures) at Starved Rock Lodge and State Park. Self-guided tours take about 30-minutes. A brochure, with a map of the “Art in the Park” collection is available at the Hotel Front Desk, in the Great Hall and at Trailheads Concessions in the Visitor Center.The first piece of “public art” in the collection at Starved Rock Lodge is also the largest. Chief Walks with the Wind stands 12 feet tall and was created by sculptor Peter Wolf Toth (rhymes with Oath) in 1989. Local musicians perform in the laid-back setting of the Back Door Lounge. Enjoy your favorite cocktail (Starved Rock Signature Ale– a craft beer– is on tap) and an appetizer or late dinner, too. On May 25th, we take it OUTSIDE for our first Veranda Party of the season featuring Steve Sharp & Wake the Sheep Starting May 25 thru Aug. 31, we have live music every Friday & Saturday night on the Veranda from 8-11 pm. No Cover Charge.

Land & Water Cruise

There are two tours 9:30am-1:00pm & 11:00am-2:30pm. Tour includes a historical trolley ride, hot lunch at Starved Rock Lodge and a leisurely 1-hour river cruise on the “Belle of the Rock” and authentic paddle wheel boat.

 

Guided Hike & Lunch

11:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join us for a guided hike from the Lodge to LaSalle and Tonti Canyons. Participants meet in the Hotel Lobby to pick up a lunch and a “Starved Rock” backpack. Hikers will stop for lunch once they reach LaSalle Canyon. After lunch, the hike continues to Eagles Cliff and Lover’s Leap. The tour concludes at the Lodge about 2:00pm. Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. Hike will be approximately 4 ½ miles round trip. Lunch includes your choice of turkey, ham or peanut butter and jelly; bag of chips; freshly-baked cookie; piece of fruit; and a bottle of water. Advanced reservations are required. Space is limited. *This hike is classifies as strenuous.

Historic Trolley Tour

There are two tours: 12:00pm-1:30pm & 1:30pm-3:00pm. Board a trolley outside of the Great Hall area of the Lodge. Enjoy a historic trolley ride with stops at the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center where you will see a short video of the area. You will also travel to the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center where you will see Starved Rock from across the river and watch as the river traffic lock through the locks. You will also travel through the village of Utica and hear about the Illinois and Michigan Canal. While aboard, the driver will narrate the history and legends of the area.

 

History on Horseback-Overnight Package

This package is availalble Sunday-Thursday nights May, June, August and September of 2012. Take a one-hour horse ride back in time, through Illinois Valley hills and fields and creeks while listening to fascinating tales of local history and nature. Dismount your horse to visit a Civil War cemetery on-site and enjoy a delicious Starved Rock boxed lunch on the deck overlooking Cedar Creek Ranch Lake.  When your ride is over, come back to the Lodge for a dip in the pool then grab a bite to eat in the Main Dining Room or at the Back Door Lounge-where you can catch some great music by local musicians. Chuck Wagon Overnight Package

Plan for an evening of tasty vittles and old- fashioned fun for the family at Starved Rock Lodge’s “Good Ole’ Cowboy Experience and Chuck Wagon Supper”! You`ll enjoy a hearty western-themed chuck wagon supper served outdoors from our very own chuck wagon. The evening continues with cowboy legends, pioneer stories, and rope tricks along with music at the campfire by Randy Erwin – popular rope trickster, yodeler, and all around real-life cowboy. Dinner and entertainment will take place at Fox Ridge (Starved Rock Lodge’s newest outdoor entertainment venue). We’ll even supply the bandanna to help you dress the part. $10.00 per additional adult room charge, $49.50 per person for Chuck Wagon Supper & Show, Children under 12: $32.00
