Hospice Teleconference to Discuss Care for Veterans

By Illinois Valley Community Hospital | Apr 09, 2013

Illinois Valley Hospice is again the local sponsor for the Hospice Foundation of America’s annual teleconference, which this year will focus on caring for veterans.

“Improving Care for Veterans Facing Illness and Death” is the theme of the 20th annual Living With Grief Teleconference, which can be viewed beginning at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, in the conference room of the Illinois Valley Hospice building on 6th Street in Peru, just east of Illinois Valley Community Hospital.

While there is no charge to attend the teleconference, pre-registration is required by calling 815-224-1307.  The event is intended for both healthcare professionals and the families of veterans who are nearing the end of life.

The U.S. Census Bureau says there are nine million veterans age 65 and older in the United States.  The Hospice Foundation says there is a need to increase understanding of veterans’ needs in all healthcare settings, and particularly those that will care for dying veterans.

Illinois Valley Hospice is a department of IVCH.
