Expect A Decision Soon From the Blues
We wrote two weeks ago with comment about the hurdles to be crossed when President Obama announced that the administration had changed course and decided let folks with non-grandfathered health insurance policies keep them for another year if they wanted. It was interesting to see in the days that followed the President called to the White House for meetings first the executives of the largest health insurance companies, and followed up a couple of days later with state insurance commissioners. In order the for concept to be carried out, both parties would have to play along. The flow works like this: If the State Insurance Commissioners agree to allow the reversal, then it is up the Individual Health insurance carriers to make their own business determinations.
Last week Illinois Department of Insurance Director Andrew Boron took the first step and said 'yes' to the reversal. Now the ball is in the court of the insurance companies. Expect a decision from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois sometime soon.
